We're Here to Help

Peer advisors meet regularly with their mentees to check-in and help them transition to UConn.

Peer advisors create and host a variety of workshops specifically designed to help first-year students learn about business and UConn.

Peer advisors are readily available to students through our live chat feature, co-teaching UNIV sections, hosting virtual social hours, and weekly communications with mentees.

Making Connections: Peer Advisors routinely meet with their mentees throughout a semester.

Throughout the semester Peer Advisors invite their mentees to sign-up for and attend "Mentor Meetings." Mentor meetings occur about three times a semester but a student can always reach out to their Peer Advisor to request additional meetings.  These meetings are an opportunity for students to connect with an experienced, trained, and involved School of Business student.  In these meetings Peer Advisors will check-in with students to see how they are doing, ask about how the transition to college has been and what questions students have, and learn more about their mentees by asking about goals and plans students have for their time at UConn and beyond.

As a first-year School of Business student, you can always find out who your Peer Advisor is and their email address by logging into Nexus, their information is listed on your Nexus homepage.  For Fall 2020, all Mentor Meetings will be held virtually allowing you to participate from the convenience of your current location.  Peer Advisors will be inviting first-year students to sign-up for a Mentor Meeting starting in mid-September so keep an eye on your UConn email!

Peer Advisors host a variety of events throughout the semester designed specifically for first-year students.

Each semester Peer Advisors host a variety of workshops, discussions, and presentations on topics crucial to first-year students.  These events are designed with first-year student interests and goals in mind and are meant to help first-year students learn more about various areas of business, develop strong skills in their first year, and learn about ways to enhance their UConn experience.  We're still finalizing the schedule but expect to see event dates and times added to the calendar by late September!

Peer Advisors routinely represent the School of Business in a variety of ways.

In addition to mentorship and hosting events for first-year students, Peer Advisors participate in a variety of initiatives through the School of Business Office of Undergraduate Advising. Below you'll see some of the many ways PAs represent and assist the School of Business:

  • PAs help students and non-students alike through our live chat feature on our website.
  • Some PAs co-teach UNIV 1800 sections with advisors.
  • PAs send out weekly communications to their mentees reminding them about important deadlines and events.
  • PAs often represent the School of Business at university-wide events like Open House, major fairs, and abroad fairs.
