Transfer Course Review
Interested in transferring to UConn's School of Business? Outlined below are 6 steps representing the most common questions our office receives about transferring coursework to the School of Business. Please note official coursework evaluation doesn't take place until after a student has been admitted, and is conducted by the Admissions Office at the University of Connecticut.
Step 1
Transfer Equivalencies
If you are currently taking courses at a CT institution please refer to UConn Admissions Transfer Course Equivalences website. This page lists courses the University has already agreed are either equivalent to UConn courses or will receive UConn credit. This list will help you determine what courses you should receive credit for once accepted to UConn.
If your current institution is outside the state of Connecticut, you should complete steps 2-6 and understand that your courses will not be able to officially be evaluated until you have applied to the UConn School of Business and have been accepted. Advisors review this information with you at Orientation. Following steps 2-6 will give you a general idea of the courses you need to be complete (Student records cannot be reviewed by Advisors until the student has been accepted to UConn's School of Business and signs up for Orientation).
Step 4
Check Off Courses
Check off the courses from you major Plan of Study based on the courses listed on your current transcript. Any remaining courses on your transcript that are not listed on your major Plan of Study will be considered electives if accepted for credit by the Admissions Office.
School of Business students are required to complete 60 non-business credits and this a great place for those elective credits to count towards the non-business requirement.
Step 2
Comparing Your Courses
Use your unofficial transcript at your current institution to compare the courses at UConn using the UConn Admission Transfer Course Equivalences page for CT institutions.
For institutions outside of CT, look at your institution's course catalog and compare course descriptions to UConn's Undergraduate Catalog, to get a sense of what may be similar.
Step 5
Obtain Course Syllabi
If there are courses you believe fulfill a School of Business requirement, it is best that you save your syllabi from that course. If admitted, when you arrive at Orientation you can provide your advisor with the syllabi and other documentation and it will be reviewed for possible substitution for a degree requirement (Course Substitutions will not be reviewed until the student has been accepted to UConn's School of Business and has attended Orientation).
Step 3
Major Plans of Study
The Office of Undergraduate Advising website lists all the different majors in business. Each major has a specific major Plan of Study which outlines each course needed over the course of 8 semesters.
The sequence given in the sample sequence is a general guideline for all students in the School of Business. Keep in mind your plan of study will be dependent on your catalog year, which is the year you are admitted to the School of Business.
Step 6
Further Course Evaluation
To see if you can receive credit for completion of business courses at another institution at an institution outside of CT (or that are not listed on the UConn Transfer Course Equivalences page) you must obtain the course syllabi for the course and provide your unofficial transcript from your institution to be evaluated by a faculty member at the School of Business.
Refer to the School of Business transfer course evaluation procedures (Courses will not be evaluated until the student has been accepted to UConn's School of Business and attended Orientation).
