John Ireland grew up in Southington, CT and enrolled at the Storrs campus in the Fall of 2000. During his time at UConn, he was avidly involved with the Undergraduate Student Government as a School of Business Senator, and then as Comptroller. In addition, he was the student representative on the UConn Foundation Board and sat on many University committees as their student representative. John graduated in Spring 2004, majoring in Finance and minoring in Political Science and began his career with Marsh in Hartford, CT.
Marsh is a global insurance broking and risk management firm. During his time there, he worked on U.S. and international insurance programs for multi-national companies. While at Marsh, he had the opportunity to work in their London, UK office and got to experience working on insurance placements at Lloyds and other international carriers. After Marsh, John joined Willis in Boston, MA, another global insurance brokerage firm. There his focus was on U.S. casualty and excess liability placements.
In 2012, John and his wife decided to move back to Connecticut. He joined Lockton Companies in Farmington, which is the largest privately held insurance brokerage firm in the world. There he worked with middle-market sized clients to service their complete Property / Casualty insurance needs. In July 2017, John joined Starkweather and Shepley out of Bristol, CT. as a Property / Casualty Account Executive and was recently promoted to Vice President. Starkweather and Shepley is an insurance brokerage firm based out of Providence, RI with a focus on middle-market sized businesses.
Today, John and his wife have 2 young future Huskies and they reside in Cromwell, CT. They enjoy bringing the family to UConn football and basketball games and visiting the Storrs campus whenever the opportunity arises.
In November of 2021, John was elected to the town of Cromwell’s Board of Finance, where he was subsequently voted-in as Chairman.
