Session Option A: Imposter Syndrome: Everyone's Faking It (and that's OK!) with Leo Lachut, Interim Director of First Year Programs & Learning Communities and Director of Academic Support at UConn
- Have you ever felt like you don’t belong in the room, or that your successes are just “luck”? That nagging self-doubt has a name: imposter syndrome—and you’re not alone in experiencing it. This interactive session will define imposter syndrome, explore why so many high-achieving students and professionals struggle with it, and provide practical strategies for overcoming it. We’ll also reframe failure as a valuable learning opportunity rather than a setback, focusing on how to bounce back stronger and use challenges as a stepping stone toward growth. Drawing from new and influential research in psychology, leadership, and business development, this session will give you fresh tools and insights to build confidence, resilience, and a mindset that embraces both success and failure as part of your journey.

Interim Director of First Year Programs & Learning Communities and Director of Academic Support, UConn
With over 30 years of experience in higher education and mental health, Leo has dedicated his career to helping college students thrive—academically, personally, and professionally. Leo currently serves as the Interim Director of First-Year Programs at UConn, where he leads a dynamic team focused on student transition, engagement, and belonging. He also supports first-generation student initiatives, academic coaching, and innovative programming through the Academic Achievement Center.
Whether mentoring undergraduate interns, launching experiential learning programs like walking the Camino de Santiago, or collaborating across departments to remove barriers to success, Leo bring energy, empathy, and a deep commitment to equity and inclusion.
Leo is a strong believer in the power of authentic connection, the importance of grit and growth mindset, and the magic that happens when students realize their full potential.

Randy Siller '79

I began my career as a CPA* in Big 8 accounting and went on to obtain my masters’ degree in taxation to develop deeper knowledge in tax planning. I co-founded Siller & Cohen because I saw a need to provide clients with straight forward, professional guidance across their entire financial situations.
I went on to obtain my Certified Investment Management Analyst designation from the Wharton School of business (CIMA®). Some of my current and past accomplishments

I was fortunate to have met Sir John Templeton early in my career, and he helped me to understand how critical it is to control volatility in a client’s portfolio. This is an
important piece of what we do at Siller & Cohen. Our approach helped clients to weather the storm when the 2000 tech bubble burst, the 2008 financial crisis and the
coronavirus pandemic of 2020.

My wife Sheri and I live in New York City. I have three amazing daughters. Meredith, who is married and lives in LA, is an attorney pursuing a career as a psychotherapist. Stefanie, who is married and lives in Connecticut, received her PHD from Columbia University’s Department of Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Biology. She and I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro together. My youngest, Isabella, an accomplished pianist, is attending Columbia Grammar and currently pursuing an acting and singing career

Brent Lucia
Associate Professor In-Residence of Business Communication and Leadership
Professor Lucia is an experienced English Instructor and teaches courses in business communication and leadership in the School of Business. His research examines the intersections of rhetoric, technology, and ethics, with recent work on AI literacy, authorship, and Big Tech imaginaries in media.
